Daily Enrichment Activities for Rehabilitation (DEAR)
The purpose of the DEAR (Daily Enrichment Activities for Rehabilitation) Program of SHARE is to address a great need in the community, which is to serve persons with disabilities who do not qualify for the Vocational Rehabilitation Program of the State of Georgia. DEAR is innovative in its approach to teaching skills for moderately to severely challenged clients. Many of DEAR’s activities will help the client to learn to deal with daily living and possibly transition into the work world. The DEAR Program provides services to persons who are out of school, but who are mentally and/or physically challenged. The goal for the clients of the DEAR Program is to reach their full potential of independence – whatever that may be. The majority of the DEAR clients live with family now, but as time goes by these family members may not be able to care for them. The DEAR clients will need to be far more independent than they are presently. Many have received good backgrounds in the school system, but without repetition, information and skills are quickly forgotten. Socialization is another huge area that is addressed.
