​Christmas ornaments for 2024 have arrived. This year we honored St. Mark's Episcopal church. This is our annual fundraiser, and we are selling each ornament for $18 each.
St. Mark's Episcopal church was established in 1868 in Brunswick, Georgia at 1900 Gloucester Street. It serves as a beautiful example of architecture in the city's Historic District. In 1892-93, a belltower, nave "sanctuary" and chancel "choir" section were added to the original church building.
The hurricane of 1896 heavily damaged the original wooden structure. Following reconstruction and expansion, the first services in the new church building were held in December 1915. At the dedication, the Brunswick News reported " the new St. Mark's is pronounced by those who are specialists along ecclesiastical lines to be one of the most correct and best-appointed churches in the South".
By the 1980's. The then 70-year-old sanctuary was in significant need of repair and the Rev. Jessee "Buzz" Yarborough led St. Mark's through an extensive decade of renovation and restoration which would eventually result in over $500,000 invested in one of Brunswick's most historic buildings. St. Mark's has been an impact for good in Glynn County for more than 150 years.
